Establishing

Parchi Letterari

I Parchi Letterari® are paths and itineraries along the places of life and inspiration of the great authors. Towns and villages, but also landscapes and countryside described in a text, are a cultural and environmental heritage to be protected, promoted and made accessible to visitors throughout journeys amid literature and memory by means of cultural activities and events designed to make authors and their places of inspiration known.

Enabling to try, taste, feel, touch and observe possibly all that led an author to writing historic pages of literature we aim to revitalize the memory of their work via a sensory journey; we approach the author within his human dimension.

I Parchi Letterari® are a combination of hospitality, guided tours, events, and entail activities, food and wine, and crafts. Literature becomes as well a powerful way of helping protecting the environment as a place of inspiration, an original method which through the authors' work interprets the territory perceived as a set of environmental, historical, artistic and traditions resources. In order to achieve these objectives it is essential to:

It is important to understand from the outset that the activities of I Parchi Letterari® must necessarily be also measured by the cost / income ratio. Therefore, considering that when possible the literary parks can use public funding for the initial phase, it is essential that after the short but indispensable period of adjustment, the parks aim at achieving a certain economic autonomy.

A Literary Park® is established through the signing of a contract between Paesaggio Culturale Italiano srl and a legal entity (public or private). In the event that the signatory will not directly manage the literary park (as usually happens for public entities), within the contract the parties jointly agree to assign operational management to a private legal entity (Association, Cooperative, Company, etc. .).

Membership application
Paesaggio Culturale Italiano srl is happy to help new subjects who intend to establish a literary park and be part of the network of I Parchi Letterari®; in order to evaluate the concrete integration potential, the provision of some information will be required in order to maintain transparency in the relationship. Once the information has been received and examined, we will contact the applicants in order to go into detail.

The application requires the indication of the following points:

  1. Identity of the applying private person, private or public entity or institution
The management of a Parco Letterario® is entrusted only to a legal entity (already existing or created ad hoc). If the intension is to create a new entity, it is required a list of its key people with the relative curricula, experiences and proposed objectives. In the event that the entity was already established, it is also essential to add the entity's information, the statutory objectives, the activities carried out and anything else that may be useful for an initial assessment. In both cases it is also necessary to indicate if other persons or entities will be involved in the project and the level of commitment on organizational resources.

  2. Author synopsis
A Parco Letterario® is always dedicated to a central author who has been connected to the location in life or for its literary inspiration. It is therefore important, together with the application, the submission of ideas, proposals, studies on the author and his connection with the territory. A Parco Letterario® may embrace the places of inspiration of more than a single author; although the Parco Letterario® will be dedicated to only one author, other significant bodies of work and authors should be described, narrated, studied and properly involved.

  3. Indication of the location / locations that inspired the author and where the Parco Letterario® should be established.
Detailed knowledge of the concerned area is essential for a successful start of the project. A Parco Letterario® is above all a way to promote and safeguard the territory from which the inspiration was originated. Therefore the indication of the current and prospective environmental context is essential.

  4. Potential involvement of local authority/ies willing to support the project.
Shouldn't the application be made by a public entity, the existing relationships with the relevant public authorities should be detailed as well as opportunities for their logistical, organizational and financial involvement through, for example, the drafting of programmatic protocols of understanding and the granting of sponsorships.

  5. Logistic skills
A Parco Letterario® necessarily needs a venue. Although a minimum investment in terms of space and staff is understandable during the inception period, it is essential to foresee from the outset the opportunity of having the right to use premises as an archive for the material relating the author and the location, visits centre, library and video library. Spaces dedicated to meetings, conferences, debates, screenings and shows will be necessary as well. New adequate signposting will be required for the locations included in the park.

  6. Organizational capabilities
It is important to foresee from the outset a minimum of recurring activity, to be planned in line with the activities of the Parco Letterario® . It is also important to detail other initiatives, existing or which can already be organized for the foreseeable future (projects, local events, studies, research, publications, conferences, shows, etc.), and the knowledge of the bureaucratic procedures and regulation required for the realization of public events (in relation to copyright, social security, safety, insurance coverage, etc.).
